“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” — John 1:1

This famous opening line suggests that “the Word” isn’t just grammar and vocabulary, but something woven into the very structure of creation. Somehow, at the deepest level, reality and “the Word” belong together.

In this episode of MagnifEssence in Motion, Reiki Master Sara Jane joins me to explore the power of words—especially the ones we don’t say out loud but hear on endless repeat in our heads. You know: that inner narrator who seems to think it was hired as your full-time critic.

People interpret John 1:1 in many ways. In Christian theology, “the Word” is the divine creative principle: God’s self-expression, the intelligence that shapes reality. Others see it as a reminder that everything begins with intention and inner articulation. Before anything shows up in our outer life, it appears first as thought, idea, or inner language.

But even before we go that far, there’s a simpler truth: words don’t mean the same thing to everyone. No matter what the dictionary says, each of us hears through the filter of our own experience. One person hears “You’re so sensitive” as a gift; another hears it as a put-down. Same sentence, different impact.

And the most powerful examples of this usually don’t happen with other people—they happen in the quiet, ongoing conversation you’re having with yourself.

From a spiritual and energetic perspective, words are vibrational. They carry a frequency. When you speak to yourself with harshness—even silently—you’re the first one to feel it. When your inner language is kinder and more honest, your whole inner atmosphere shifts.

Science echoes this. Neuroscience shows that repeated thoughts literally rewire the brain through neuroplasticity. Every time you think “I always mess this up” or “I can’t handle this,” you strengthen that pathway, until it feels like fact. Psychology confirms that when you change your inner story, your feelings and actions begin to change too. “I’m a failure” is an energetic dead end; “I’m struggling, and I’m learning” leaves room for movement.

All of that can sound serious, but there’s room for humor here too.

Think of your “monkey mind” or ego-mind as a very loyal but slightly confused bodyguard. When you were a child, it did its best to keep you safe—warning you about danger, embarrassment, or hurt. It built a rulebook around what felt painful.

The problem? That same bodyguard is still standing at the door of your adult life, using the rulebook it wrote when you were eight.

  • “Speak up in a meeting? Absolutely not—remember third grade?”
  • “Try something new? No way. We’ve decided ‘new’ equals ‘humiliation,’ thank you very much.”

In this episode, Sara and I explore how to update that rulebook with kindness, clarity, and a bit of humor. We look at:

  • Introspective Questions. What is a “negative thought” for you? When your mind wanders into imaginary scenarios, what language does it use? Do you notice yourself spinning inner dramas loaded with criticism or fear—and how quickly can you gently redirect them?
  • Reframing Thoughts. What are the exact words inside your thoughts? The “I don’t like that…” or “That isn’t what I wanted…” moments. How can you rephrase them into something more constructive and compassionate without denying how you feel?
  • Spotting Subtle Self-Doubt. We highlight common, sneaky phrases that seem reasonable but slowly erode confidence and joy:
    • “Maybe I’m just not ready yet.”
    • “I’m probably asking for too much.”
    • “I don’t want to be a burden.”
  • Recognizing them is the first step to choosing something better.
  • Taming the Ego-Mind. Rather than trying to kill off your ego or silence your monkey mind, we talk about retraining it—from overprotective guard dog into wise, supportive ally.
  • Rewriting the Inner Script. We explore how words, intention, and energy practices like Reiki can work together to support real, grounded inner change.

If “in the beginning was the Word,” then every new thought is a small beginning—a fresh chance to speak to yourself in a way that aligns with your heart, your potential, and your peace of mind.
